So much to do and so little time! This section is meant to help keep you on track and make your Day 1 at camp smooth and simple. Make sure to read every section and complete everything on the To Do List. If you are ever wondering what to do next, or if you missed something, this section is here to help you figure it out. Of course, you can always reach out to us at Camp if you need a hand too.

Step 1: Let's Get You Hired

After completing your background and reference checks, you are through into the onboarding process. This portion of the process will include logging into your employee account (ADP) to read and sign various YMCA policies and practices, as well as complete a few onboarding forms, that all employees need to complete prior to their first day. All of these will be laid out as tasks once you are into your ADP account.

Step 2: Write Staff Intro

We want everyone to have space to be welcomed and share a bit about themselves before we are all together. This will allow you to learn a few new faces and make Day 1 feel a little less scary.

Let's talk about what to include in your Staff intro:

  • Of course, begin by telling everyone what your name is, what your role will be this summer, and where you are from.
  • Have you worked at Camp Seymour before, if so, how many summers and in what roles? If you have not worked at Camp Seymour, what other camps have you worked at or what other youth serving experience do you have?
  • What are your hobbies? your favorite outdoor activities?
  • What is your favorite snack?
  • Share a fun fact about yourself that might surprise people.
  • What are you most excited for this summer? What are you a bit apprehensive about?

(Optional) Include your contact information so other staff can reach out to you before the Summer. List your preferred method of communication whether it is your phone number for folks to text you, your email, or a social media handle, it is up to you; include one, all, or none!

Finally, be sure to include a photo of yourself that shows you doing something you love outdoors. just make sure we can see your face! The photos will come through in a headshot style format, so keep that in mind when choosing (look at the ones already posted for reference).

Send your staff intro and photo to skeenan@ymcapkc.org.

Step 3: Register for Remind

We know that not everyone is always checking their emails and especially during the summer it will not be at the top of the priority list. To help us solve this issue and communicate before and during summer, we set up a Remind. The link below is for you to "register for our class." This platform will allow us to easily send out reminders and notifications to everyone. You must register to receive important messages, reach out to Jenn if you have any questions.

Step 4: Staff Survey

This survey allows us to gather important pre-summer information from everyone to create ease of planning. There are questions to gather information about any questions or concerns you might have; this will help us address topics before everyone arrives.

Staff Survey

Step 5: Transportation Information

Are you flying to Camp this summer or willing to help others get to camp? This survey will allow us to gather all necessary information to create travel and pick up plans for the summer.

If you are flying in, plan to arrive at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. We will offer shuttles from the airport to camp on:

June 9 (Leadership Staff/International Staff) before 1pm

June 11th (International Staff) before 4pm

June 15 (All Staff Training) before 4pm

If you are arriving on any of the following dates do your best to arrive prior to the listed times. Once you have confirmed your travel plans complete the survey below, so that we can develop a firm plan for our shuttles. If you are unable to find a flight that will arrive before those times, please reach out to Jenn to make alternate arrangements.

Step 6: Time Off Requests

Summer is a busy time of year. We appreciate you wanting to spend yours at camp creating an incredible impact for kids. At the same time however, we know that things happen during the summer, weddings, family reunions, baby showers, etc. Hopefully, all of these are things you know well in advance. This is the place to let us know. You should submit requests prior to June 1st, so we can plan for your absence. Any submissions after June 1st will need to be brought to Jenn directly for approval.

Step 7: Packing List

But what do I bring; hopefully this packing list can help. During staff Zoom calls and in the monthly updates we will also talk more about packing and what to bring, but this is the best place to get started. Please let us know if you have any questions.
